Altera Vita Photography Contest
Opportunity to have your photography exhibited in an photography gallery for up to a month.
The contest is open to all photographers. This is on your own merits and the decision of the juror* (read more about this near the bottom of the page). All sales are through the gallery and not the Alter Vita Photography Contest website. You set the price for an unframed photograph (the gallery may suggest a range with minimum and maximum price points). Galleries have their own contracts to sign for sales through their venue and a commission split will be part of the agreement. That's between you and them. Selected photographs for the show will be professionally framed by the gallery for showing which lets the artist ship unframed prints and save on shipping costs (return label and prepaid postage required for returns). Depending on the gallery space, some photographs will be in a print rack if the submission calls for a portfolio or multiple image submissions. Single submissions will always be framed and hanging on the gallery wall. The gallery may rotate the framed photographs in the case of multiple photographs from the same artist.
Note: For the January 2022 show at The Space Art Gallery, at least one photograph in the show must be 20"x20", 20"x24" or 24"x20" to be framed by the gallery and be on display. The other five prints (of the 6 total) can be different sizes but nice if they are consistent like all 16"x20" or 11"x14". Each photograph can be matted or not but must come on an archival backing board. Signed on the front or on the verso. Must be part of a limited edition (25 is ideal but can be more).
This particular contest calls for a portfolio of 6 images. There is not a theme.
Note: The gallery does not get any funds from the contest. They want to sell the work that's picked by the juror.
Altera Vita Photography Contest co-hosts the winner's exhibit opening and promotes the art exhibition on social media outlets and advertising on some art related sites. Gallery participants will have their photographs on the Altera Vita Photography Contest website and social media after they are selected.** A link to the photographer's online gallery will be added after the curated show. Sales will be through the gallery during the show.
*Jurors are selected for their prominence and experience in the art world.
Important: Some hosting galleries may prescreen and omit submissions that the owners/managers/curators of the galleries deem inappropriate for their venue. They are acutely aware of what sells in their galleries. In most cases, the gallery will help/suggest juror selection so that the views of both will be similar or compliment each other. It is prudent, as an artist, to research the juror and gallery before submitting work for consideration. All situations are different and there is no hard fast rule for what is acceptable to a gallery. Most galleries are very open to any artistic work. Just a head's up on what happens in the art world.
You are giving permission for all of the above.
**You can opt out, for any reason--or no reason, the social media parts and/or the photos on the contest website.
Altera Vita translates to "new life" from Latin.
